VMware green credentials lands qualification for ACA
VMware has announced that its technology now qualifies for the Irish expanded tax incentive, meaning businesses that purchase VMware software in addition to eligible enterprise storage and server hardware will be able to write off the entire cost of purchase against taxable income in year one. The Accelerated Capital Allowance (ACA), which was introduced by the Irish government, aims to encourage an investment in energy-efficient equipment in businesses.
VMware is the first virtualisation vendor to qualify for the ACA after meeting the criteria laid out by the Sustainable Energy Ireland. Management features such as Distributed Power Management that are designed for power and cooling savings deemed VMware eligible for the incentive.
VMware unveils VMware View 4
VMware has revealed VMware View 4, claiming it's a response to the growing interest in virtualised desktops and desktops-as-a-service models. Built on VMware vSphere, VMware View 4 is a family of products available in two editions: VMware View 4 Enterprise Edition and VMware View 4 Premier Edition. The Enterprise Edition starts at $150 per concurrent connection and the Premier Edition is priced at $250 per concurrent connection. VMware View 4 will be generally available starting Nov. 19 through VMware, its OEMs and channel partners.
Citrix verifies 10,000 products for XenDesktop 4
Citrix Systems has launched its Citrix Ready Open Desktop Virtualisation programme to coincide with the recently released XenDesktop 4. According to Citrix, the progamme includes more than 10,000 products from over 200 vendors that have been tested and are ready to deploy with the desktop virtualisation product. The programme verifies interoperability with products from data centre systems, client devices, and management systems and services. XenDesktop 4 supports Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V, Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008, Citrix XenServer, VMware ESX and VMware vSphere.
NetApp launches SnapManager
NetApp has revealed the NetApp SnapManager for Hyper-V and SnapManager 6.0 for Microsoft Exchange Server. The new releases are aimed at improving backup and data recovery in Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 environments. SnapManager for Hyper-V is designed to help Microsoft customers eliminate backup bottlenecks and reduce human error. SnapManager for Microsoft Exchange Server is designed to minimise the number of Exchange data copies that enterprise customers need to deploy -- it includes a single mailbox recovery feature for faster email restores. In addition, the virtualisation vendor has announced that NetApp SnapManager for Microsoft SQL Server and SnapManager for Microsoft SharePoint Server can now run on Windows Server 2008 R2.
