Uptime Institute introduces new standard for key data centre players
The Uptime Institute has announced a new standard for data centre owners, operators, and managers to address facilities' management behaviours and highlight any risks that may affect long-term data centre uptime. The Tier Standard: Operational Sustainability measure is structured around three elements that influence a data centre's ongoing performance: management and operations, building characteristics, and site location.

VMware Go offers new features for SMEs
VMware has unveiled new features for its VMware Go Web-based service. Aimed at the SME, VMware Go is designed to be an "easy on-ramp to virtualising applications" by automating the installation and configuration for the VMware ESXi hypervisor. VMware Go allows the user to virtualise severs and create new VMs. One of the new features enables those customers who have created VMs on VMware Server to move them to the ESXi platform without having to correct any VMs that they have tailored for their business needs.

Citrix partners with immixGroup to supply technology through government
Citrix Systems has signed with immixGroup's Government Channels Division to deliver virtualisation solutions to public sector customers. Including solutions such as Citrix XenDesktop and Citrix XenApp, the technology will be accessible through immixGroup's contract portfolio.

Cisco ramps up Data Centre 3.0 campaign
Cisco has added a new package of products to its Data Centre 3.0 campaign. Hardware and software components have been unveiled in addition to extensions and services for the vendor's Wide Area Apllication Services (WaaS) WAN management platform. One of the products announced was FabricPath, which is a new addition to the Cisco NX-OS networking operating system. An update for the vendor's Catalyst switch line has also been announced. The 4948 switch is supposedly faster in performance and has support for IPv6.

Wimbledon host picks DataCore's SANsymphony
The England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, host of the Wimbledon tennis tournament, has chosen DataCore Software's SANsymphony to help with storage needs. Wimbledon annually attracts tens of thousands of spectators and millions of viewers via TV and the Internet. The club, founded in 1868, chose to use the storage product when its IT population swells from 200 to 6,000 users across Wimbledon's three-week period.
